Personal Movie Screenings

by Jeremy Cole on Wednesday, June 30th, 2004 at 15:51:31 in General

Nearly every time Adrienne and I go to the movies, we watch our movie in an otherwise completely empty theater. It’s really amazing. I’ve been trying to figure out how much money the theater loses on us two watching movies. It has to be a non-trivial amount.

Mach 3 Patents

by Jeremy Cole on Saturday, June 26th, 2004 at 14:08:23 in General

I was just glancing at this Gillette Mach 3 “M3 Power” box of razor refills. It contains the following text on the back, and overflowing on the bottom tab:

U.S. Patent Nos./ Nos de brevets américains:

No less than 43 patents about a shaver and shaving blade. Absolutely amazing. (It took a long time to type all those!)

Gravy on Bread

by Jeremy Cole on Friday, June 25th, 2004 at 21:51:50 in Travels

“Another perfect Southwest landing, smooth as gravy on bread.”

I’ve never heard that particular phrase, until today. It was a pretty darn smooth landing though.

UAE to Cleveland flights?

by Jeremy Cole on Wednesday, June 23rd, 2004 at 14:05:25 in General

A strange thing: There’s a 747-400 double-decker jumbo jet from the United Arab Emirates sitting at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. This is strange because, well, planes as big as 747-400′s don’t generally land at Cleveland at all, and there aren’t really any gates at Cleveland to accept such a large plane. It’s parked in front of the terminal and kind of off to the side, out of the way.

Very very strange.

M3 Power

by Jeremy Cole on at 11:34:54 in General

So, I had to replace my razor since it was stolen, and on a whim, I purchased a Gillette M3 Power. It’s a strange beast. I don’t understand how a company with any idea of their customers could come out with something quite so stupid. In short, it’s a normal Mach 3 razor, but they’ve added a battery and an electric motor.

I would liken it to shaving with a vibrator.

It’s going back to Wal-Mart once I get home.

Special Treatment

by Jeremy Cole on at 06:26:00 in Travels

While going through airport security today, the person behind me set off the metal detector, and as they generally don’t give you more than one try anymore, the person was pointed towards the manual search lane.

The security person said “looks like you get special treatment“.

In case you don’t know why I am posting this, or why I thought that was interesting, ask google.

Onward to DC

by Jeremy Cole on Tuesday, June 22nd, 2004 at 16:24:39 in Travels

Now that I have my luggage back, I have to re-wash all my clothes and head to Washington, DC in a few hours. I’m flying Southwest today, sadly, because they have the best schedules.

I’ll be back from DC!

Steal a Man’s Toothpaste?

by Jeremy Cole on at 16:13:27 in Travels

My luggage is back! It’s missing a few items, and it was definitely looked through.

Items missing:

* Toothpaste
* Mach 3 Razor and Blades
* Toiletry bag

Interesting.

Luggage?

by Jeremy Cole on Monday, June 21st, 2004 at 19:25:23 in Travels

My luggage is MIA. It’s at Amsterdam airport, was completely missing until earlier today, when I got an email from Menzies Avaition’s baggage handling department, saying they had found it in the bathroom.

So, someone tried to steal my bag, found out it contained only dirty socks and underwear and such, and left it in the bathroom. Now it’s in the hands of KLM baggage services. At least I’ll get it back!

Happy to have GPRS

by Jeremy Cole on Sunday, June 20th, 2004 at 06:30:11 in General

Funny enough, I never thought I’d be so happy to have Internet access with a 1s ping and less bandwidth than most dialups. At least it’s stable, reliable, and no ports are blocked. Unfortunately due to not being able to really get my mail for the past week and having to use a bad Pine to read it, I now have 2,200+ emails to download when I get home.

Oh well, at least I can use AIM and ICQ again, and I don’t have to feel the wrath of Microsoft Proxy Server.
